1. Enemy Behaviour 12 December 1941
Only weaker enemy forces felt ahead against the Gazala position. Instead further south a break-in of weaker enemy forces (probably 4 Armoured Brigade) succeeded. The enemy forces present in the area Bir el Harmat – Bir Hacheim (7th Rifle Brigade – 22 Guards Brigade – 1st South African Brigade) advanced about 20km west and northwest.
2. Details
Radio intercepts show that remains 22nd Armoured Brigade (concentrated in 2 Royal Gloucester Hussars) have become part of 7th Armoured Brigade.
7th Medium Artillery Regiment (in the past 1st South African Division) now subordinated 4th Indian Division.
1stSouth African AA battalion (in the past 1st South African Division) now subordinated command staff 7th Armoured Division.
1st South African Division no longer present, only 1st South African Brigade, which is under XXX. Army Corps.
6th South African Brigade continues south and east of Sidi Barrani.
