This has nothing to do with the desert war, but I wanted to note that my thoughts are with my friends and colleagues in Ukraine, and I hope that they and their country will prevail over the illegal and inhuman acts of Russia’s mini-Stalin.

My grandfather was part of the force that invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, and the pictures coming through now, of wounded and killed civilians, burnt-out tanks and destroyed homes should make us all realise that wars are being fought on the backs and with no regard to ordinary people. This one is no different.

Let us hope that this madness ends soon.
